What is Co.school?
Co.school is a creative agency that helps you learn and build new things, collaboratively.
What kind of things does Co.school help make?
- New strategies and plans (through facilitation and consulting)
- New ways forward (through coaching and conversation)
- New technology products (through design, prototyping and AI experiments)
- New audience insights (UX research, community-based design)
You can read more of our case studies here.
What kinds of partners do you work with?
We work with not-for-profits, leaders, creatives, entrepreneurs, change-makers, educators, explorers and friends. They tend to be compassionate ideas-people who are resistant to the status quo, who bring a lot of empathy, and want to make change happen.
Where is Co.school located?
Co.school is a Canadian small business. We're remote-first, and currently our team members are based in British Columbia (Kelowna and Vancouver). We do a lot of virtual collaboration.
Why is it called Co.school?
Our original big idea was to provide training and online learning resources around the theme of co-creation, and the name "Co.school" really fits that. These days, we're focused more on learning by building and making new things (not just learning in theory). With that view:
- The co is about co-creation. The making and building of new things.
- The school is about learning. We learn by doing.
So, we're about making & learning, together.
Who's on the team?
- Meet Charlotte Taverner-Whelpton, Creative Partnerships Lead
- Meet Kevan Gilbert, CEO and Founder
Who's in the network?
We work closely with talented friends and partners who help us when we have the need for additional support. Here are some of the folks we've been collaborating with recently:
What's the Co.school story?
It's a long one, but a pretty interesting one, and one day we might get around to writing it here. In the meantime, reach out to schedule a conversation, and we can tell you over coffee or Google Meet!
What is Co.school's purpose statement?
"To foster flourishing futures for our people and partners."
When we started, it was: "For the world to heal, we must learn to work together." It was a time of tremendous social division and polarization (still is, really), and we were wanting Co.school to be a light for communication across divides. Operating with that purpose statements for a few years revealed some important insights:
- "The world" is a frightfully large scope;
- "Healing" is a process that is outside any entity's control;
- "Must" is a strong imperative statement, especially when it involves...
- "working together," which is, truthfully, not the only way to work. Sometimes we work independently, sometimes we work collaboratively. It changes on the context.
So, these days, we say this: "To foster flourishing futures for our people and partners." It's our hope that we can create good lives for our immediate team and their families (inspired by Justin Jackson's Calm Company manifesto), and that those we worth with will also find their lives enriched.
What's the difference between the other things called Co.school, Co-school, Coschool...?
A few people around the world over the years have named their own product or organization some variation on the name "Co School." It's a neat name! There is no relationship at all between these entities, but here's a helpful guide to telling the difference.
There's CoschoolAI: This one is a technology startup based in India that provides teachers with automatic lesson plans, powered by AI.
There's Coschool in Colombia: They are a BCorp and for-profit social enterprise focused on developing socio-emotional skills in young people, teachers, and managers. They serve Latin America, from Bogotá, Colombia.
There's also a Wordpress plugin called CoSchool, which is an LMS (learning management system) toolkit to help people create and sell online courses.
And then there's us: Co.school. We're based in Canada, we're a creative services agency/consultancy that leads co-creation projects to make new things. We've got the dot in our name, and it's a domain name as well.
